During a recent women’s holiday stress management workshop, I shared with the group the progress I have made in reducing the amount of “stuff” I do to get ready for Christmas. In previous years, I decorated three trees, each sporting a different “theme” that matched the decor in the room it adorned. Under the tree were matching presents for that particular tree. The list of tasks was immense and although what I do still may seem like a lot to some, great strides have been made in reducing the “busyness” of the holiday season.
This year I seem to be taking it to the extreme.
In the opposite direction.
At the time of this writing, it is only 6 days until Christmas.
I have NO tree.
Zip!
Nada. No “Oh Tannenbaum.” No “rocking around the Christmas tree.” No putting an angel on the Gaver tree because there IS none!
Normally this would be freaking me out and I have been making quite a joke out of it. But truth be told, I’m really not upset. If I were, we’d have the tree! Cause that’s the way I roll. The rest of my house is decorated but I’ve been so busy shipping books since the “Must Love Shoes-2″ book launch that I haven’t placed a high priority on securing a Christmas tree.
I attempted to get a tree today but I made the mistake of not going to my cousins’ (who own Gaver Tree Farm in New Market, MD). I thought I was too busy today and didn’t think I could afford the time it took to get there. So I went to a local farm located about 15 minutes from my home. And they were CLOSED!
Serves me right for dissin’ my family. I’m sure the Gaver’s were open.
So I’m going to attempt again tomorrow and maybe….just maybe we’ll have a tree.
And if not, it will be someone’s else’s responsbility. Maybe I’ll make this a little test to see who in my family wants one the most. “Let he who wants the tree, go cut it DOWN!”
And if that doesn’t work….well….. there are two more options: a) the neighbors have a cute little tree on their front porch, just sayin’. b) there are some pretty sorry little Charlie Brown trees in my yard. And we all know how THAT turned out!
Stay tuned!
Julie
ps – I was totally kidding about the neighbor’s tree, for the record.
