Today I had the honor of serving as Emcee for the Little Pink Box Tea which benefits Breast Cancer Awareness of Cumberland Valley. This event kicks off a very active month for the nonprofit organization whose mission is to see that no one goes through breast cancer alone.
The afternoon featured a host of events to delight the girly-girl in any woman. The ballroom at Foutainhead Country Club was beautifully decorated in the official color for Breast Cancer Awareness: PINK! (Even Mike Callas, of Fountainhead looked sporty in his pink striped shirt.)
The main event was high tea which featured your choice of hot tea (mine was PASSION, a fruity herbal party in a cup!), cold strawberry soup, scones, mini-sandwiches, and an assortment of desserts including chocolate covered strawberries.
Before, during, and after the event, the ladies had numerous “shoportunities” to peruse the many tables featuring teas from Spirit of the Lotus, the Tea Market (which had adorable arrangements in tea pots, tea cups) and other fun collectible tea goodies.
The Tea Grab Bag was my favorite! Thirty dollars entitled you to pick a tea bag from a big cup. The tea bag had a number inside which corresponded to a beautifully decorated gift which could contain any number of great gifts: Pandora bracelets, dinner gift certificates, pottery, trips, and a host of other great things.
As you made your way around the table, you could vote for your choice of the most creatively decorated hat, most adorning some shade of (you guessed it) PINK!!! Lots of fun!
But the reason I love serving as Emcee for this fabulous event is because every year I have had the honor of sitting with women who are Survivors or those who are currently “fighting like a girl” and will someday celebrate their own personal triumph of survival. My dad is a breast cancer survivor, which is pretty unusual and so I’ve seen, up close and personal, the impact it has on one’s life and the people who love them.
And so, to my new friends who shared their story of courage, faith, and friendship with me today, THANK YOU, for allowing me to be part of YOUR celebration. You are my heroes!
