Today, on my way home from a speaking engagement, I stopped at the Mall to do some banking. As luck would have it, the bank is conveniently located close to Macy’s and so I dropped in to say hello. I’ve been a very good girl lately and was fearful that the sales clerks might be missing me. Maybe it was because I was in a celebratory mood because my speech went well but I emerged with three pair of shoes. (One was on sale!)
I realize that this post may put me in a troublesome position with my husband so on the off chance that he doesn’t read this, you never met me! Back to the shoes.
In my defense, I’m modeling in a fashion show Friday night to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. (I wrote about it earlier this week). The dress I’m modeling is an animal print, sassy little number from Chicos. There were no shoes in my closet to accompany a sassy animal print number so what’s a girl to do? I bought a sassy, out-of-character-for-conservative-Julie-pair of shoes. And that’s where the trouble began.
As I continued to browse, I became painfully aware that the pointy-toe pumps I’d been wearing all day were hurting my feet. They had long worn out their 3 hour welcome! So, before I knew it, a cute pair of flats were in my hand, which for some reason made my tired feet feel instantly better! Funny how that happens.
Then the practical side took over. I really need work shoes. Voila! Nice, conservative (rounded toe) black pumps jumped into my hands before I could hear my husbands voice in my head saying “do you really need three pairs of shoes?”
I refuse to show favorites. I love them all. Isn’t it funny how a pair of shoes can totally change your attitude? One pair makes me feel 30 (the sassy ones). One pair makes me feel 40 (the professional pumps), and…..well….. the ones I love the most…… are the flats. Because sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
During a recent conversation with my friend, Laura, she was sharing a very similar take on her attitude toward shoes. And I quote:
” Today, I have high heels on and you’d think I owned this town with the attitude I’ve had. I’m going home now to put flats on….reality is calling as well as the laundry and the dishes!”
Here’s to “owning the town!”
I think the sassy shoes are a tax write-off…somehow! Save that receipt.
…and the other pair could be a business expense! So really you bought one pair of shoes
I should have been an accountant.
I like the way you think, Lee Ann. You’re hired!
